I don’t think we’ll get any clarity on potential tariffs by May 7th, but there’s a chance. It’s important to be aware of the relevant upcoming dates.

On the federal government’s website, there is a request for comments regarding semiconductor equipment and manufacturing tariffs. There’s an important note on that page:

“Comments may be submitted at any time but must be received by May 7, 2025.”

This statement does not mean that tariffs will be announced on May 7th. What it does mean is that the public comment period will end, and potential tariffs could be announced on that date. Tariffs could also be announced after that date. There’s no further analysis to be done here—we simply don’t know at this time.
